The state of Louisiana requires drivers to maintain a minimum liability requirement in order to drive legally on public roads.this is known as the State minimum liability coverage. This coverage will only pay out to the other driver in the event that you are found at fault for an accident. The minimum liability limits are 10/20/10. These limits are lower than in most states. To make sure that you are financially connected you may want to select a higher liability coverage.
Louisiana State minimum coverage explained:
10: the insurer will pay up to $10,000 for one persons injuries
20: the insurer will pay up to $20,000 for all injuries
10: the insurer will pay up to $10,000 for property damage you cause if you are negligent.
If you do decide to go ahead and get collision and comprehensive coverage you may want to get a higher deductible to help lower your premium. Before deciding to do this you must understand the deductible must be met before the Insurer will pay you for any claims made.
